East District Welcomes New Library Branch

The East District officially opened its new public library branch this week, ending a decades-long wait for a dedicated library facility in the neighborhood. The 15,000 square-foot building features modern amenities including a technology center, meeting rooms, and a children's wing.

Library Director Patricia Wong emphasized the facility's role as more than just a book repository. "This is a community hub where people can learn, connect, and access resources," she said during the opening ceremony attended by over 200 residents.

The library offers free computer access, job search assistance, homework help for students, and hosts regular community programs. Special collections focus on local history and multicultural materials reflecting the diverse East District community.

Residents have already embraced the new facility, with over 500 library cards issued in the first three days. The library is open six days a week with extended evening hours on weekdays.
