Community Garden Project Expands to Serve More Families

The beloved Westside Community Garden is expanding, adding 50 new garden plots to meet overwhelming demand from local residents. The expansion, funded by a combination of city grants and private donations, will more than double the garden's current capacity.
Garden coordinator Lisa Ramirez said the waiting list had grown to over 100 families. "There's a real hunger in our community to grow their own food and connect with nature," she said. "This expansion will help so many families access fresh, healthy produce."
The new section includes raised beds for accessibility, a tool sharing station, and a children's learning area where local schools can bring students for hands-on gardening education. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for next month.
Volunteers are being recruited to help build the new beds and prepare the soil. Community members interested in reserving a plot can sign up at the Parks and Recreation office starting February 1st.
